Drawing the "Appropriate" Lesson

A State Dept. official is quoted as saying on April 9, 2003: "We are hopeful that a number of regimes will draw the appropriate lesson from Iraq that the pursuit of weapons of mass destruction is not in their national interest."

Jeez, if I was a regime and saw what the U.S. just did to Iraq, I think getting such weapons as quickly as possible would be the only appropriate lesson to draw.
